Market Breaking News 13/01/12


1. Jobless Claims Rise More than Expected, Up by 24,000 to 399,000; Retail Sales Disappoint, Up 0.1%.

2. Stocks edged higher at the open Thursday as some successful bond auctions in Europe helped offset a handful of disappointing jobs and retail reports.
Alcoa led the Dow gainers, while Chevron lagged.
BofA traded near $7 at the open. 

3. Stocks came off their worst levels Tuesday but were still mixed after a handful of weak economic reports limited gains.
Chevron led the blue-chip laggards, while Alcoa rallied. 

4. Stocks closed higher in thin trading Thursday, led by strength in materials and industrials, erasing losses after several weak economic reports from earlier in the session.
