Year of Revival

The lunar new year is expected to be a "revival year" with constant change taking place.

Good Feng Shui geomantic researcher Kenny Hoo said 2012 is the year of the water dragon, which carries strong water elements.

"Feng shui emphasises a balance of all elements. If an element is too strong, it will affect a lot of things," he told SunBiz in an interview.

"Even though the wealth stars are not as prominent, the water dragon year will still bring forth plenty of excitement if businesses know how to discover the hidden 'treasures'," he said.

Hoo, who applies the "converge water technique" in feng shui, foresees that the year will have its share of doubts and challenges before springing back to reach greater heights.

"Generally, the economy is likely to see a downward trend due to uncertainties, and it will be experiencing a V-shape rebound. With Malaysia's location in Southeast Asia, we anticipate challenges for the country, as the southeast is not a good sector in 2012."

He said this year is likely to be vibrant but with "steep conditions", coupled with many changes and surprises in all fields.
Wood-related industries will benefit the most, followed by those related to fire, metal, earth and water.

Wood-related industries include paper-related businesses, publications, creativity house, palm oil and rubber,

while industries with fire element are petroleum, utility, telecommunications, electrical and electronics, food and beverage, liquor, and entertainment.

Metal-related businesses include banking and finance, insurance, and automotive; with construction, interior design and

mining being categorised with the earth element;

while those associated with the water element include travel, logistics, fishery, shipping, and transport.

"Expect to see a reshuffling in all fields, and those habitually sticking to their conventional ways will tend to lose out. While some individuals may apply the wait-and-see stance, I would advise businessmen to look for opportunity in this risky climate."

The feng shui practitioner said the dragon is an interesting and auspicious creature, the strongest symbol of the 12 animal signs.

The year will also facilitate changes, with expected recovery in the economy and business confidence.

He said the year will be an opportunity for businessmen to rethink their past, change their ways and enter new phases.

To further enhance good luck in business, Hoo encourages the use of red in all aspects, such as clothing, decoration and packaging to generate positivity.

He also advised against performing any renovation or alteration in the north, south, southeast and northwest sectors of the office from Feb 4, 2012 to Feb 3, 2013.

"There will be more career advancements and better opportunities in wealth creation and accumulation in offices with the main doors facing the northeast and west."

In this year of revival, Hoo said businesses and individuals must react fast to market changes and challenges.
