SHARON TAN
Zouk KL, the capital’s busiest and most iconic nightclub, will have a brand new — and very fancy — home come next January in TREC, the nation’s first lifestyle and entertainment hub along Jalan Tun Razak.
The new RM38 million nightclub will be the most expensive ever built in Malaysia. It will offer a night out for all tastes: with a built-up space of 60,000 sq ft, it will comprise five clubs as well as a VIP bar lounge, a member’s lounge, a café and a rooftop deck.
Zouk KL is set to be a major landmark in the 7-acre TREC, which is being developed to a tune of RM323.6 million. TREC stands for Taste, Relish Experience, Celebrate.
The sprawling purpose-build entertainment destination is the brainchild of Zouk KL’s own co-founder and executive direct, Cher Ng, who envisions TREC as Malaysia’s version of Hong Kong’s Lan Kwai Fong or Singapore’s Clarke Quay.
Here’s a closer look at the ambitious project.
Electric Boulevard
Touted as the pulse of TREC, the Electric Boulevard will feature bars, bistros, karaoke outlets, live music venues, lounges and clubs.
Alcove
For a more laidback, outdoor experience, there is the Alcove, a hip outdoor enclave housing dessert bars, cafés and retro coffee shops.
The Terraces
For the ultimate alfresco experience, there is The Terrace which will offer patrons a panoramic view of the Royal Selangor Golf Club greens.
The Hive
The Hive will house an eclectic mix of casual and upscale restaurants, chic wine bars and lounges on the street level, upper-level balconies and six rooftop gardens.
Rhapsody Square & Quad
Events come alive at the 5,000 sq ft Rhaspody Square and the 4,000 sq ft Quad.
TREC is a joint venture between Ng, Malaysian entrepreneur Douglas Cheng and investment holding firm Berjaya Assets Berhad.
