In the most stunning game of the 2014 World Cup, Germany took a 5-0 lead on Brazil in the first 30 minutes of their semifinal match.
Thomas Muller opened the scoring on a corner kick in the 11th minute.
Brazil then completely fell apart in every way, bombing forward at first, letting in a succession of easy goals, and then just going through the motions in the next 20 minutes.
It’s like they’ve stopped playing.
Miroslav Klose made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute. Toni Kroos made it 3-0 in the 23rd minute. Kroos made it 4-0 in the 24th minute. Sami Kheidra made it 5-0 in the 29th minute.
It’s one of the more bizarre sporting events you’ll ever see. Germany are still coming in waves. It could get worse.
ESPN’s Ian Darke rightly called it, “One of the most astonishing halves of football in the history of the World Cup.”
