US MARKET BREAKING NEWS,11 OCT 2011

1. Stocks opened lower Tuesday, following a sharp rally in the previous session, as investors stayed cautious ahead of a key vote in Slovakia to expand the euro zone rescue fund.
Alcoa slipped, while Apple gained.
2.  Stocks turned higher Tuesday, looking to extend the previous session's sharp rally, but investors stayed cautious ahead of a key vote in Slovakia to expand the euro zone rescue fund.
 
Alcoa gained, while Netflix declined.
 3. Stocks ended mixed after moving between small gains and losses Tuesday, as investors kept their focus on developments in the euro zone and ahead of Alcoa's results, which marks the beginning of third-quarter earnings season.
 4. Alcoa reported earnings of 15 cents a share that fell short of analysts' expectations. Revenue, however,  topped forecasts. Shares skidded after-hours.
5. The US Senate defeated President Obama's job-creation plan in a vote late Tuesday, suggesting Washington may be too paralyzed by partisan bickering to help stimulate job creation before the 2012 elections.
