KUALA LUMPUR (Dow Jones)--RHB Capital Bhd (1066.KU) isn't aware of any plans to launch a takeover bid for CIMB Group Holdings Bhd. (1023.KU), RHB Chief Executive Kellee Kam said Friday.
"I can reaffirm that we have ceased negotiations on RHB and there is no change in that position," Effendy Shahul Hamid, CIMB's head of group marketing and communications, said separately.
Both banks were responding to a report in Singapore's Straits Times newspaper Friday, which cited unnamed bankers and government officials as saying RHB Capital, a takeover target until a few weeks ago, may launch an attempt to buy one-time suitor and larger rival CIMB Group.
