Hong Kong firm buys Patimas shares



KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 4, 2013): Hong Kong's Tencent Holdings Ltd is the purchaser of Patimas Computers Bhd's shares, according to a source familiar with the deal.
Headquartered in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, it operates in four segments namely Internet value-added services, Mobile and telecommunications value-added services and Online advertising.
Tencent's diverse services include social networks, web portals, e-commerce and multiplayer online games.
It operates the well-known instant messenger Tencent QQ and runs one of the largest web portals in China, QQ.com.
As of Dec 31, 2010, there were 647.6 million active Tencent QQ IM user accounts, making Tencent QQ the world's largest online community at the time.
The number of simultaneously online QQ accounts has sometimes exceeded 100 million.
As of November 2010 the company was the third largest Internet company in the world behind Google and Amazon with a market capitalisation of US$38 billion.
Its subsidiaries included Tencent Cyber (Tianjin) Company Ltd, Tencent Asset Management Ltd, Tencent Technology (Beijing) Company Ltd, Tencent Cyber (Shenzhen) Company Ltd and Tencent Technology (Shanghai) Company Ltd. – Bernama
