SINGAPORE--Singapore's gaming regulator Wednesday said it has
fined Genting Singapore Ltd.'s (G13.SG) Resorts World Sentosa 600,000 Singapore
dollars (US$490,000) for breaches relating to the entry levy for locals entering
the resort's casino.
The Casino Regulatory Authority said following an
investigation it conducted between Feb. 1 and May 31 that it discovered the
casino operator has offered incentives such as free tickets to the resort's
Universal Studios theme park, free accommodation and concert tickets to
residents who purchased new annual entry passes or renewed existing ones.
"About 3,400 local casino patrons were partially reimbursed the cost of
the annual entry levy through these means," the CRA said in a statement on its
website.
"Although the marketing program was implemented by a handful of
RWS' staff members, CRA holds RWS responsible for its employees' actions."
Under Singapore law, casino operators in the city-state are required to
charge local patrons--citizens and permanent residents--a S$100 levy that
provides them with a 24-hour pass into the gaming area. Locals can also purchase
an annual pass for S$2,000.
The CRA said casino operators are prohibited
from either directly or indirectly refunding or reimbursing the entry levy.
